Chapter 27

Lawless seeing Licht for the first time

The One and Only is the 27.5th chapter of the SERVAMP manga series.

Summary[]

This bonus chapter focuses on Lawless' life before he became Licht's Servamp. Thus, it's told out of his perspective.

The chapter starts half a year prior to the events of the story in New York City. Lawless is sitting down and looking at the poster of Licht's concert as his former Eve, a famous actress, is getting ready to go said piano recital. He asks her why she's going in the first place and states that he has no interest in it at all. She replies by saying it can't be helped since she has a meeting with a man afterwards.

Lawless thinks she should revise her new script instead of going, pointing out that her acting has been criticized lately, but she shrugs it off and tells him that it's none of his business.

The scene changes to the concert, Lawless arriving late. As he searches for his seat he sees a few guests crying, before a voice announces that Licht's second act will begin now. Blinded by light, Lawless looks over to the stage. This is the first time he sees Licht in person, already mesmerized by him and his way of playing the piano. In this moment, Lawless decides that he will make Licht his new Eve.

It cuts to his former Eve refreshing herself in the rest room. Lawless appears behind her. She reminds him of the date she has after the concert, asking if he'll come as well and that she would arrange another table for him. He declines. His Eve thinks he's doing another one of his strange part-time jobs and tells him not to stray too far away. Lawless smiles, advising her to watch out for accidents that could happen. After that, he tells her "bye-bye".

Chapter 27

Lawless saying goodbye

The chapter cuts to a collection of newspapers, headlines about an accident and the actress' death floating around. Lawless crushes the papers with his foot, walking through the people masses of New York. He checks if Licht is still in America. Lawless finds out that he's in Boston the day after tomorrow.

Next, Licht and Lawless are shown sitting next to each other while Licht is explaining to Crantz how the hedgehog he picked up turned out to be a vampire. While Crantz is very confused, Lawless starts to elaborate about how he's actually a Servamp and how he managed to conclude a contract with Licht, mentioning how funny it was to watch Licht taking care of Lawless' pet form.

Licht states how he can't stand Lawless, who he calls demon. Said one just laughs and tells him that they should get along since they have to stick together. They start to fight while Crantz is still confused and frightened, trying to calm them down. Licht manages to break Lawless' glasses, but it doesn't seem to bother him and he says that he'll just buy new ones.

He states that Licht's aggressive and violent nature doesn't fit his occupation of a pianist, but that it doesn't matter after all since in the end Licht will die easily anyway. Lawless sits down, alone in the room, and start to quietly sing to himself as he closes his eyes.

Chapter 27

Kuro at the discussion

A flashback begins, showing all the Servamps and their discussion about whether or not they should kill their creator. Lawless complains about having to discuss this matter. Lily chimes in and says it's an urgent matter, but he gets interrupted by Illdio who tells everyone that the answer is "no" and that they are not going to kill a human. Hugh joins the discussion, saying that Illdio's statement would only work if their creator was indeed human, Freya questions what Hugh just said.

Illdio and Lawless begin to argue loudly. Illdio provocatively asking since when they're an assassination group. Lawless agrees, claiming that the fate of a life shouldn't be decided by a majority vote. Hugh tries to calm him, asking if his behavior has something to do with Ophelia, which aggrevates Lawless, but Hugh ignores it and proceeds to ask Kuro about what he thinks since right now, it's 3 votes for yes vs. 3 votes for no.

Before an answer from Kuro is revealed, it cuts back to Lawless sitting on a roof at the original time of the flashback. He says he remembered something boring and annoying, referring to the discussion that had just played, before having an internal monolouge about how every person is meaningless and doesn't have any worth. He states that he will continue to proof exactly that.

Chapter 27

Mikuni's reaction to Syuhei's request

The last scene shows Mikuni and Syuhei having a conversation at C3. Mikuni is looking through some documents when Syuhei suddenly appears behind him. It's revealed that Mikuni stole Syuhei's ID card when he was taking a nap. Mikuni seems to be looking at documents about Lawless, Syhuhei pointing out that his tendency to choose celebrities for Eves is troublesome, because it increases the chance of civilians finding out about Servamps. Mikuni giggles, hinting that their goal to keep Servamps secret is absurd.

Syhuhei tells him that the C3 president wants to speak to him, but Mikuni says he's not in the mood for that. As Mikuni's about to leave, Syuhei asks him not to cause any more trouble than he already has. Mikuni just smiles.
